Who we are
We are simply trying to be Christians—as defined by Christ! We are simply trying to follow His word, and to be conformed to His image. We don’t claim to be perfect; we have our flaws. We do claim to be those who are trying through the power of Christ and the encouragement of His church to be all that He wants us to be.
Core beliefs
We believe in the God of the Bible, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible is the revealed will of God for mankind (2 Timothy 3:16), and the New Testament is God’s final message delivered to us by His Son (Hebrews 1:2). All authority for how we organize, worship, and minister in this world comes from the New Testament (Matthew 28:18-20).
We believe that the Great Commandments (Matthew 22:37-39) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) shape the purpose for our existence.
We believe that the new covenant was inaugurated with the blood of Christ, and are gospel-centered people, who are firmly committed to living lives that are shaped by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that participation in the new covenant community, the church, begins when one humbly comes to Christ in faith (Hebrews 11:6) and repentance (Acts 17:30), making a public profession of faith (1 Timothy 6:12), and is baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38).
We believe in worship that is spiritual and based on the truth (John 4:23-24), and that on the Lord’s Day the gathered people of God express their adoration for and reverence to Him by engaging Him in five activities: (1) observing the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-26), (2) singing songs, hymns and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19), (3) offering prayers (1 Timothy 2:1-8), (4) giving of our financial resources (1 Corinthians 16:1-2), and (5) receiving a message from God’s word (2 Timothy 4:1-2).
We believe that each congregation of the church of Christ must be overseen by a plurality of elders or shepherds (pastors), men who are uniquely gifted and qualified to lead the church (Acts 14:23; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). We also believe in the necessity of deacons who serve in various ministries (Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:8-13), and of evangelists who labor in the preaching of the gospel (2 Timothy 4:1-2) to carry out the work of the church.
We believe that the elders (pastor-teachers) and evangelists are to equip every Christian to do the work of the church (Ephesians 4:11-1-16), because we believe that every member is gifted for service and thereby integral to the work of the church (Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:11-27).
